FIRST SETTLEMENTS

On the first floor we start at the very beginning. In our exhibition room on local archaeology and history, visitors learn a lot about the beginnings of settlement and life in those times. Before entering the exhibition room, there is a timeline of the known settlement history of the Pinzgau on a display board.

Central to the exhibition is our region’s wealth of natural resources. Ore mining, especially of copper ore, was a driving force behind the increasing settlement of our mountain region in the Bronze Age. These mining activities left lasting traces in the landscape, and a multitude of finds attest to the millennia-old mining history.

Experimental archaeological videos illustrate copper smelting and the production of prehistoric ceramics. Another display case shows finds from the Bürgkogel, which is considered the earliest central settlement area in the Kaprun valley. These everyday objects range chronologically from the Bronze Age through the Iron Age and the Roman period to the Middle Ages.
